I have a 2024, and I love the truck. But they really dropped the ball on so many things. They could have offered an off-road factory bumper with a winch. The fact that there are no recovery points up front on a TRD truck is ridiculous. The second issue is that they could have offered the 3in lift already from the factory on all TRD off-road packages. You basically have to throw away your old parts when you get their lift at the dealer. They also could have offered another TRD wheel with a more aggressive offset so you wouldn't need to buy other wheels. My last complaint is the fact that the body of the truck is so thin when I lean on the truck. It bends easily. I'm scared to cause dents just by leaning over my bed to grab something.

If they’re bolting cast iron onto aluminum, you’re running into different expansion factors of the dissimilar metals. I bet the tolerances are shifting around as the engine heats and cools. Not good.

I am at 5000 miles on my 255/85-17 baja bosses and took them to Moab and was happy with them. I have a rubicon 4 door. I ran around 14psi and probably should have been in single digits. They really did not deform much. they did not chunk like my buddy's ko2's 315/70-17 did. His did appear to have a bit better traction as his was C rated and did deform more at the same psi.

Aluminium and steel will certainly react and seize together. Indeed in the presence of salty moisture the aluminium will become a sacrificial anode. Also why do they not wax all black painted chassis components externally as well as internally and plug all external wall holes in the box sections that are anywhere near the tyre splash and spray areas?

How much oil should I fill my twin tube shocks? specifically kw v2 twin tubes? Can i get some of that foam and fill her up all the way? what size foam will i need? Is there some sort of formula to calculate internal volume and travel length to determine how much space to leave for the fluid to move or what size foam to use?

My Lexus GX 460 has 50k kilometres on the odometer. It has never been off road. The kdss light came on. My local Toyota dealership quoted a replacement cost of $7100. Since COVID has interfered with the availability of for sale units I am aware that dealers have been making up for poor sales figures through service work. I think this is a scam and Toyota should be ashamed of putting absolutely unnecessary gimmicky, expensive and flawed systems on their vehicles.

I installed TRD fox shocks on my 5th Gen TRD ORP which has KDSS… but now my car has a 1” lean on the passenger side. I’ve heard that the spacer will help correct the lean, but I’m curious if the KDSS is now not at 100% because the oil is not balanced between driver and passenger side… I was told to disconnect kdss and drive around for about two weeks and make some hard right turns and this apparently should correct the lean. I’ve been doing this for a couple of days now, but I’m not seeing much difference at all, but I haven’t measured yet. If anyone has any ideas on how to correct the lean, I would really appreciate it

Now that the issues has been isolated it would be great for Toyota to address the issue. I was told by expert mechanics that most engines are designed to fall apart at 50,000kms therefore we all have that massive service expense at 50,000kms. Not agreeing with the service issues but Toyota still is a business to run as with all these technology I’m quite sure they can make it even more reliable.

We just bought a 2024 4runner, was all about getting one with KDSS, but the more research I did the more I learned it really is not mechanically sound. It's great for road drivers and crawling slowely off-road, problem is if you drive fast off road, especially long washboard roads and such, it is an absolute nightmare. The KDSS will kick in cosntantly while offroading at a decent speed 30 mph+ and send extremely rough hits into the cabin because it's locking the sway bar. It also lowers the front clearance by about 1.8 inches, andif any of it malfunctions the cost to repair is insane like $4,000 to $6,000 usd. Just avoid it, seriously. It seems like a band-aid toyota came up with to combat rollover crashes but just doesnt work in real life situations, only under controlled tests. There is a reason this is not a standard system on all vehicles.

I wonder if there's an advanced version where they use actual numbers. Vehicle corner weights Suspension travel Spring rates and compression length Example: 1200lb corner 8in suspension travel 300lb/in spring rate with 8in max compression The corner will be static at 4in of compression, allowing for 4in of droop and 4in of dynamic compression. (Mildly less when accounting for bumpstop and cargo)

That much torque is not anything crazy for that engine size. The S58 engine in the BMW M3/4 and X3/4 makes 480 lb/ft of torque with only 3 liters of displacement. That has proven to be a reliable engine. But it has all forged internals.

An inline-4 or inline-6 turbo diesel would be more reliable. Works for the Hilux and Land Cruisers outside the US. Then again, small diesels are not meant for the US market. They're relatively big and slow, which aren't that great for freeway driving. They're utilitarian, but a good petrol V8 could solve majority of the torque demand anyways for similar use cases.

i’m not an engineer however, I have experience rebuilding engines. One of the things that comes to mind is the tolerance between the main bearing, as well as crankshaft and caps may be the oil isn’t seeping through as smoothly. Also, oil weight play a big factor as well.

Finally a subject im pretty knowledgeable about! The longer stroke and shorter rod ratio (this is likely though i dont have any rod length numbers) force the piston to spend less time near piston Top Dead Center and in conjunction with a smaller bore and an optimized burn the ignition can be less advanced (reducing pumping losses) and resists knock because of the faster piston acceleration away from TDC. All of this increases low end torque. add in small quick spooling turbos and you have more power being made in a smaller surface area. The smaller surface area allows less heat loss(through conduction and more Work extracted) Main and rod bearing diameter (and width) have probably been minimized to reduce frictional losses. Couple this with fewer rod and (more importantly) MAIN bearings in a V6 VS a V8 and the more violent (because of shorter duration combustion and being shared between fewer cylinders) combustion strokes and the bearings are dealing with much more force with a smaller bearing surface area. If the forces are enough to break through the cushioning oil layer because of knock or power, or even bad harmonics they will relatively quickly damage bearings. Less agressive ignition timing, less torque or higher viscosity oil should all be able to bandaid the problems, but in the end its likely the bearings being over-optimized for fuel efficiency and not having enough of a margin of error for unknown harmonics or the effect of the faster combustion on instantaneous loads sent through the piston/rod/crank assembly

I installed a 200W solar panel on the lid of my RTT and quickly came to realize that if I want the panels to work, I need to be parked in direct sunlight all of the time, which is not what you want with an RTT, so I now have panels other panels that I can place in the sun and leave my car in the shade.
